Grandma and Grandpa (Debbie's parents) share the same birthday, just two years apart. While their birthdays aren't until the end of August, we had the opportunity to take them out for a special evening last Sunday to celebrate. We went to the
Dixie Stampede in Orlando for dinner. Owned by Dolly Parton, the Dixie Stampede is dinner and entertainment all rolled into one. Debbie had been to the original one in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, with her friend Amy a few years back and had been wanting to go again. Since they don't allow cameras inside, of course they start off by taking a picture of your group. Parker wasn't too sure what to make of the whole thing at this point, but he certainly warmed up and enjoyed the rest of the evening.
After picture time, we headed into the pre-show with a couple of performance comedians and some sodas and popcorn. Then it was time to head into the main theater and dinner. They seat you at long tables in stadium style around a huge arena. The waiters bring your food (a hearty four course meal) during the show which features all kinds of animals - horses, buffalo, chickens, racing pigs, ostrich, even homing pigeons. There's a lot of audience participation too, which made it fun. Parker really got into it and everyone got a kick out of seeing his excitement.
So Happy Birthday Grandpa and Grandma! Hope you have a great year!
