Hiking Around Town

Tonight on a whim we left Taco Bell after dinner and decided to find the Land Bridge that goes over I75 between Ocala and Belleview. One of Daryl's church members had explained how to get to the trailhead and go hiking. This particular trailhead is part of something called the Marjorie Harris Carr Greenway that cuts all across the state. We only had about an hour of daylight left when we arrived at the trailhead, but decided to give it a whirl hiking with the boys and see what happened.

The part we hiked with the boys was 1.1 miles out to the landbridge and then back again.

Daddy showing the boys the trail markings indicating the path to follow.

The boys had fun checking out some interesting stuff along the way, like this big spider, and a bunny too (that one was too quick to catch on camera).

Climbing through a tree on the path.

The great big split oak. One of Debbie's church members depicted this on a quilt for an art show.

Another split oak to climb through.

After hiking for about 20 minutes, we got to this sign and walked onto the land bridge with the interstate below us.

Found this interesting marking on one of the pillars.

On the way back, the boys wanted pictures in one of the big split oaks.

It was just about dusk by the time we made it back to the car. This is the view of the meadow at the trailhead by the parking lot.

The boys pronounced our little excursion to be awesome!
