Let's just be honest, my typical idea of a good Saturday starts off by sleeping in.
But today we were up at the usual time - 6:30am.
It started by getting the boys up and ready.
Parker had to leave by 7:30am to get to a baseball skills camp.
His Orioles coach, Eric Fabian, also coaches another team the Ocala Rampage -
that's the local team in the state youth traveling league and the Rampage are the current state champs.
They held a camp from 8am-noon today for any of the Rotary players
to come out and work on their skills.
They got lots of field time, classroom time to talk about the game, lunch and a t-shirt.
After dropping him off, I headed home to pick up Daryl and Wesley for a morning of t-ball.
We had to be at the Jervey Gantt field by 9:10am for pictures before our 10am game.
In the 7 seasons we have participated in this T-ball league, this was by far
the most organized they have ever been with pictures.
They were actually running AHEAD of time today.
We were on the field for our game at 9:45am.
One of the parents took this team picture for us on their phone.
This is a great group of little guys who are really trying hard.
We have three sets of brothers on our team.
One set of brothers was on our team last year -
their parents have been a huge help to Daryl and I on the field.
The younger brother in that family is also Wesley's best bud from VPK.
He has improved so much already and really the whole team ROCKED in on the field today.
After our game was done, we headed back to Rotary to hang out until Parker was finished.
A quick trip home was necessary for everyone to change clothes and
to pick up Parker's car for the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby.
Registration for Bears was from 12:30-1pm and we made it right on the nose at 12:30pm.
Since Parker's car was a Firebird design we decided to dress up in support.
Meet Team Flaming Firebird.
They were so sweet and let Wesley help - he got to flip the lever to start every heat.
Parker's ran once in each of the three lanes on the track with times of 2.939, 2.860 and 2.843
for an average overall time of 2.881.
This put him in 1st place in the Bears Den!
Three years racing and the third year in a row he has won the den in 1st place.
Getting his medal.
One very happy young man.
The top three from each den go on to compete at Districts on March 30th in Ocala.
Parker will also find out on Monday night at his den meeting
where he placed overall in the pack standings.
After the Derby we headed home for lunch and then everyone took naps for a while.
Later we wandered around at the free St. Patrick's Day Festival on the Square.
Our good friends the Reverons from the church in Hudson were up here once again
with their booths - Sand Art and Photos.
The kids all jumped in right together playing and racing around.
Then Stacee and Errick generously let the boys make some sand art creations
and get some pics in the booth.
They do the Photo Booth at different festivals and ALSO wedding receptions.
What a neat idea! They had props out on their table and the boys borrowed for their pictures.
Being able to reconnect a bit with our friends was the perfect ending to an all-around awesome day.
