Today was the start of school here in Marion County. The boys had picked out their outfits and made their breakfast requests last night so the morning went pretty smoothly. We found out late on Sunday night that the Marion County is participating in a pilot program for food services, and that every elementary student in the district can eat school lunch for free! So needless to say their backpacks were fairly light on the way to school this morning without lunchboxes and the supplies we had already dropped off.
Here is Wesley on his very first day of kindergarten!
And here is Parker on his first day of 4th grade!
They look pretty proud of themselves don't they?
That's because they are BOTH riding bikes to school this year. We've done several trial runs and Parker has his Tracfone to text us as they go back and forth. After they willingly kissed Davis goodbye and the grownups insisted on kisses and hugs, the two boys took off for South Ocala Elementary for the first day of school by themselves.
When they arrived home this afternoon, Daryl, Davis and I were waiting in the driveway for them. We heard all about their days - and it seems that both boys really like their teachers and had great experiences in class. Wesley was quick to tell us that he had stayed on "green" for behavior and that he had successfully figured out how to navigate the lunch line.
Then we kissed Daddy goodbye and headed off to Aunt Eunice's house. We had worked out with her to celebrate the first day of school with some swim time. We figured out that the lunchboxes and thermoses we had on hand for the school year will be used to pack snacks in so that the boys have something to munch on while they do their homework at Daddy's office. But today they were packed with snacks and drinks they could partake of in the car on the way over. All 3 boys had a blast playing/floating/jumping in the pool and hot tub.
And then Aunt Eunice won them over forever with these huge chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter cookies warm from the oven! I think they each had 4 or 5 cookies. Thank you Aunt Eunice!
And then of course Parker had to play in the sandbar and the little guys were checking out Shadow the dog from safely behind the sliding doors.
We came home and quickly switched into homework gear. Really it was mostly forms and a few things we had to go over with the boys. Then we dished up the chili I had cooking all day in the crockpot before heading off to Cub Scouts. Parker is officially a Webelo this year. When the meeting was over inside the kids were running around outside playing games and Davis ran right out there and joined in the fun.
By the time we got home, it was time for baths, reading books and bed. Everyone was sound asleep before 9pm which is a small miracle in this house. Seems like it was a successful and fun start of the new school year.
