Kickoff to Summer

Thursday was the big boys' first official day of summer. They spent it the morning at my office in Belleview and the afternoon at Baba's office at Druid Hills. But Thursday evening after all of our responsibilities were fulfilled, we headed off for some family time. We used Friday as our day off last week and spent it at the Magic Kingdom, using the last day of our 4 day resident passes.

We overcame challenges with transportation to make it into the park; the monorail was down and everyone had to take the ferry over from the parking lots. We headed straight for the new 7 Dwarfs Mine Train that opened in Fantasyland last weekend only to find it wasn't working and they weren't sure when it would be back up. Lots of people were willing to wait for it though - we saw at least 500 people in line - and so we quickly took advantage of the short lines elsewhere and managed to ride 6 rides in our first 90 minutes in the park: Winnie The Pooh, Goofy's Barnstormer, Dumbo, Tomorrowland Speedway and Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin and the Carousel of Progress. We followed that up with Journey of the Little Mermaid before getting flatbreads for lunch at Pinocchio's Village Haus, and riding It's a Small World. Then it was off to Haunted Mansion and the Hall of Presidents. The big boys wanted to show off Tom Sawyer Island to Davis and we played around there for a while.

We caught the afternoon parade from the island before heading back to get a snack - frozen lemonade for everyone.

Pirates of the Caribbean was next, followed by Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse and then we were headed to catch the jokes at the Monster's Inc Laugh Floor. By this time it was 5:30pm and we had pretty much accomplished all the things we wanted to do for the day except for riding the new 7 Dwarfs Mine Train. All day long we kept checking the wait time on the phone app and it was running between 90-120 minutes. At this point it was listed as 75 minutes and we decided to just go get it line.
It ended up only taking 55 minutes from the minute we got in line until we were done. The ride queue was interesting and interactive and the ride itself was definitely worth the wait!

This is the face of a kid who loves Disney, loves rides and can't go fast enough on roller coasters!

We cut through the castle and went back to Main Street for a little window shopping before heading home to Ocala. Someone fell asleep before we left the park and slept most of the way home.

It was a great day together - a good end to our Disney pass experience for the year and a great way to kick off our summer together as a family.
