Birthday Celebration Time

What happens when your spring break falls during Holy Week and your parents are pastors? What happens when your 11th birthday falls on Palm Sunday? Well, you get a mini-spring break/birthday trip to Disney World from Palm Sunday afternoon through Monday night. We took off with the boys on Sunday after worship and headed for the World. We had a coupon for the new B Resort and Spa in downtown Disney which turned out to be a very nice.

The boys were fascinated by this Lego model of the Marvel Avengers helicarrier in the Lego store.

The transformation of Downtown Disney into Disney Springs is coming right along. The new pedestrian walkway across the water connecting the two sides is now open.

Here's the birthday boy sporting his birthday celebration pin.
Happy 11th birthday to our Parker!

His pick for dinner this year was the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue dinner show inside Fort Wilderness.
It's been 25 years since I had last been to the dinner show here - the food and the show were really very well done. The boys all had a great time and there were lots of opportunities for audience participation.

Dinner was all you could eat fried chicken, barbeque ribs, corn, mashed potatoes, baked beans, cornbread and salad.

During one segment, anyone celebrating a birthday that day was invited to raise their hand. Folks from the show came around got their name, hometown and age and announced it out loud to the whole arena. Parker got his moment of recognition.

And for dessert - strawberry shortcake!

Today we spent the morning at EPCOT before moving over to the Magic Kingdom. There were lots of special plant sculptures throughout EPCOT... we rode Soarin' and then also Test Track before catching the monorail.

At the Magic Kingdom Daryl and I took turns riding Space Mountain with our roller coaster junkie.

This guy really enjoyed driving at the Tomorrowland Speedway.

Our view during lunch at the Pinnochio Haus.

We hit a few other rides and then headed for home. The little guy took a cat nap on the monorail ride from the EPCOT to the Magic Kingdom and then fell asleep again on the ferry headed back to the car at the end of the day.

It turned out to be a very nice mini-spring break/birthday trip. Looking forward to all of the worship
experiences that will be coming up at both of our churches in the next several days.
