Celebrating Granddaddy

Daryl spent last week with his mom and brother in Seffner making arrangements for his dad's memorial service this weekend. Our nephew Micah was even able to make it back from overseas with the Navy. On Friday when school was over I drove the boys back down. Friday was also Grandmommy's birthday, so we all went out to dinner as a family plus extended family for a group of 17.

Later that night back at the house, Micah drove everyone around in Granddaddy's golf cart.

Saturday morning was so hard. But Pastor Kathi from their church in Seffner did a beautiful job in leading the service and it was very much a celebration of Wayne's life. Daniel did a great job with opening the service and thanking people on behalf of the family. Micah got to present the flag to Grandmommy. Dawn and I read Scripture. And Daryl did a wonderful sermon message that honored his dad. So many people came out to remember Wayne and we were touched to see friends from our childhoods as well as college, and a group of twenty-four people from Community UMC who came to support the family as well.

At the reception afterwards - all six grandchildren - five of them were wearing ties from Granddaddy's personal tie collection.

We held a short private family interment later at Seffner Cemetery where Grandmommy's
parents and grandparents are buried.

Our family of five
Wayne's cousin Lisa and her husband John came the farthest (from Texas) for the weekend. We were so glad to be able to spend some time with them.

Thank you so much for all of your expressions of love and care and sympathy. Your prayers have certainly been sustaining us in the last few weeks.
