Sunday morning Parker and I woke up and attended worship at St Mark UMC in midtown Atlanta. This congregation has been fully Reconciling since 2011 and several friends recommended it was well worth the visit while we were in town. The guest preacher on this particular day was the Rev. Brian Tillman, the Director of Inclusion and Advocacy for the North Georgia Conference. Worship was wonderful!
Then we went back downtown again to visit the National Center for Civil and Human Rights (right between the Coke Museum and the Georgia Aquarium). The first floor details the life of Dr. MLK Jr and the second floor records the history of the civil rights movement in this country. The top floor challenges you to consider the human rights violations that are still happening around the world today and how you might play a part by considering your ethical footprint - what you buy and from which companies.
After this, we drove home and got back around 9pm. A quick trip - just a little over two days - but a wonderful time of bonding and fun.
